Creative Zone

Do you like building instead of Minecraft’s exploration and survival gameplay, or maybe you enjoy a bit of both? We’ve got you covered!

We have the Creative Zone, a creative mode version of the overworld which keeps your inventory separate from the survival mode one!

Travelling to the Creative Zone and back

Via portals

If you’ve just started playing, it’s easiest to use the portal at the survival spawn area to travel to the Creative Zone.

The portal to the Creative Zone, found at the survival spawn area (-170, -320)
The portal to the Creative Zone, found at the survival spawn area (-170, -320)

At the Creative Zone’s spawn area, you’ll find another portal that’ll take you back to the survival spawn.

The portal back to the survival overworld, found at the Creative Zone spawn area (280, 410)
The portal back to the survival overworld, found at the Creative Zone spawn area (280, 410)

N.B. - These are special portals that are different from the player-constructed portals that can be used to travel within the survival and the creative worlds.

Via commands

You can also jump between survival and creative at any time, wherever you are! Do /world rejoin creative_zone to jump to the Creative Zone and /world rejoin world to jump back to survival.

Your last position in each group of worlds is remembered - including whether you were in The Nether or The End! This lets you, for example, quickly check out something someone wanted to show off in creative and then immediately get back to what you were doing in survival.

Other differences

As well as being in creative mode, the Creative Zone has some other differences from the survival dimensions:

  • The difficulty in the Creative Zone is set to peaceful so that hostile mobs will not spawn
  • PvP is disabled
  • Advancements are disabled
  • Nether and End portals are disabled
  • Player-constructed portals in the Creative Zone can’t select portals in the survival worlds as their destination, and vice-versa. This is because dropped items, etc. can be sent through them.
  • Graves won’t be created if you somehow die
  • TNT won’t explode (though it can be ignited), nor will their explosions damage blocks. The same goes for other explosives e.g. respawn anchors and end crystals
  • Some block-related behaviours are disabled, so that said blocks can be freely used to build without decaying, or causing issues etc.
    • Ice and snow will neither form nor melt
    • Leaf decay is disabled (other kinds of random ticks continue to work)
    • Mushrooms, mycelium, and sculk will not spread
    • Vines and rocks like dripstones will not grow
    • Farmland will not dehydrate
    • Coral will not die outside of water
  • Lava will not cause fires, and fire will not spread nor burn blocks
  • Lightning strikes will not start fires, zombify pigs nor turn villagers into witches
  • Because creative is not for finding loot, treasure maps are disabled to prevent lag spikes when searching for treasure locations. Maps in treasure chests won’t lead to features, and they won’t be offered for trades. Similarly, dolphins will not lead you to treasure. Generated chests also won’t replenish their loot for other players (see natural treasure chest regeneration).
  • Chickens (from throwing eggs), iron golems, and snow golems can not be spawned

Forbidden items and blocks

To prevent exploits, lag machines, griefing, etc., the following blocks and items are not obtainable in the Creative Zone:

  • Command blocks
  • Mob spawners
  • All kinds of mob spawn eggs
  • Other kinds of items which spawn mobs: other egg types (except chicken - throw them to your heart’s content!) and the various kinds of fish etc. buckets
  • Written books
  • Barrier blocks, structure blocks, and structure voids

We unfortunately can’t stop forbidden items which are normally visible in the creative menu from continuing to show up there. You’ll get an error when you try to place them in your creative hotbar or inventory, or try to load them from a saved hotbar.
